Dome at the Garnier Opera House-This is a gorgeous structure. Today it is used by the Paris Ballet for their performances. This structure was built during the Great Reconstruction of Paris during Second Empire initiated by Napoleon III and supervised by Baron Haussman.
*One of the counterweights fell during a performance May 20, 1896, the accidental falling of one of the chandelier's counterweights, which burst through the ceiling into the auditorium, resulted in the death of one member of the audience.
