Contentment is defined as a state of happiness and satisfaction. Contentment’s happiness is not necessarily the happiness that brings laughter but the happiness that brings peace and tranquility.
It is truly a peaceful feeling to feel content. Contentment usually feels the best when you know you have done enough, what you could, or your best, and it is time to take a break and do something for you, for your soul. There is much in the world that one can never be content about, but what we can be content about are the simple things in life that give one pleasure.
My husband finds contentment in a stream or river with a fly rod in his hand and the ability to be fully present in this passion. He has time to be in the moment. It is a joy to watch him, and I usually prefer to pick up a camera instead of a rod so I can capture this beautiful experience.
In this image he was fishing near Leadville in some beautiful water. It was a perfect day to be in the stream, casting, thinking and feeling contentment in the simple beauty of this sport. The sound of the water, calls of birds, and the silence and peace of knowing that there was nothing better to be doing in this moment. It is a true gift to feel the peace of contentment.
I close with a favored quote by an exceptional author on fly fishing and life.
"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.” ― Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It
