Have you noticed in your busy day that there are some things you just cannot grasp or understand? Some things that are just out of your depth of field? This photograph captured that for me with its softness. There are only a few flowers in focus.
In life there are many things that we have no control over, but if we look at the ‘big picture’ it doesn’t seem so frightening. As in this image when the entire picture is taken in, there is beauty to it. Our critical eyes often can keep us from seeing the beauty and goodness that remain in each day if we give too much attention to what is wrong. There is a balance here to help us in our daily walk . A balance that will keep us focused on what we can do or should do without feeling hopeless. This is when prayer is a powerful tool to keep one strong to do what can be done. The shortened Serenity Prayer speaks to this:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.
Teddy Roosevelt had another way to say much the same. "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
Peace.
