Gratitude Photography Project 2014
Read MoreHappy July. I will work from a theme this month of life at high altitude. My husband and I grew up in different parts of Texas and Oklahoma and after college sent applications for jobs to Colorado. We had skied here and the beauty of the mountains just touched our hearts. We counted the rejection letters as they came through our mail slot. So we dedicated ourselves to working in our local community. We enjoyed our jobs in Oklahoma. I was so fortunate to work at probably the best and most innovative elementary school in Oklahoma, Eisenhower Elementary. With a dynamic principal and talented and dedicated staff, my first years of teaching were filled with an incredible learning curve and applying the best teaching practices to my instruction. I had great teachers there.
Then our daughter, Sara came into our life and we moved to a nearby community, and I later went back to teaching at Briarwood. It was not too long until we moved to Texas for a new line of work for my husband and Sara attended a terrific school system, Highland Park for 13 years. I enjoyed my teaching days in HPISD and appreciated the top notch professionalism and dedication to learning.
Finally, after Sara chose University of Colorado as her college, it was the catalyst Bobby and I needed to finally move to Colorado. Bobby just needed to be near a major airport for his work so we chose the foothills of Denver. We have lived here for 12 years and have experienced nearby forest fires, epic blizzards, and hail. Our first winter here was the epic blizzard with 75 inches of snow. We used our snow shoes to clear a path for our dog and relieve the pressure of the six plus feet of snow from the windows. We have never tired of the fresh mountain air, pure delicious water, the scenery, and the life that goes with living about 7,000 feet. Our hearts are where they were meant to be.
This image is from this weekend. Bobby pressed me to get my camera as he spotted this duo below our bedroom window. This fawn was most likely a few days old. Here the fawn is enjoying the nourishment from the doe and the doe is leaving her smell and print on the fawn. We keep a watch on our back meadow especially this time of year. Just a few weeks ago a black bear came through with 3 cubs, but I missed that opportunity.
We loved our time in Oklahoma and Texas and enjoy good memories of times there. It is wonderful to enjoy wherever you live. Every place has unique opportunities that add quality to living. The world would be a kinder place if everyone had a safe and peaceful place to call home.
Peace.
