Read MoreThank You. Two stand alone words when joined together become powerful and convey sincere appreciation. They are as powerful to say as they are to hear. I love these words. They make me feel wonderful when I say them. They do not even need anything else attached because of their power. When a name is added, they become even more personal. I think the use of these words promotes prosocial behavior.
Anne Fisher, of Fortune Magazine cited a 10-year study of 200,00 managers and employees that found that thanking people for a job well done may lead to bigger profits.
In The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Adam M. Grant and Francesca Gino examined the behavior around thank you. They found that people provided more help when thanked because they appreciated being needed and felt more socially valued when thanked.
In my years of teaching my colleagues and I used the 'catch-them-being-good' line of discipline and thanked the student for the behavior.
I am deeply grateful for this beautiful phrase.
Meister Eckhart, a German theologian, philosopher and mystic stated, " If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough."
Peace.
