Read MoreLiving at high altitude provides opportunities. Here in the Rocky Mountains there is a vast menu of options to go, seek, do. While in Crested Butte, a mountain town at 8,885 ft. elevation, we enjoy hiking to higher elevations for views that reward the soul. These views are carried with us in a mental file and can be revisited when a better view is craved. Sometimes a change of view is needed to improve a situation.
This is an image from the top of Beckwith Pass just a few miles outside of Crested Butte. We began this hike compromised. One of us did not have the proper inserts for hiking boots and had to hike in sandals. It was a 5 mile hike with an elevation gain of 1400 ft. It was a challenge because when one is at a disadvantage the other is mindful and wants to be supportive but not coddling. We arrived at the top with two very sore feet and an amazing view. The trooper in sandals especially enjoyed the consolation of a beautiful space. Views like this remain in the mind and soul. After enjoying this beauty we returned to the path for our descent. Conversation helped to keep the focus not solely on the painful feet. It was a joy to see the jeep that day. Time has a way of healing soreness. This view though is firmly implanted in our souls. I am grateful for that.
