Experiencing peace in an outing in nature's beauty is a treasured gift. One of our family's favorite events in the winter is snowshoeing in the mountains. Freshly fallen snow adds just the right touch and makes everything look pure. We were fortunate to have just the perfect combination on Saturday for our first 'shoe of this winter: fresh deep snow; no wind; mild temperatures; and, the time to enjoy. The silence of the snowy forest was a respite from the busy week. Other than a cross country skier and his dogs, we had this beauty to ourselves. Conversation was enjoyed but so was the sound of nature. Our lab loves this activity the most I believe. She enjoys her freedom off leash and the thrill of snowbanks. Her whole body celebrates this joyous experience.
Taking a break like this is a gift to the soul. It promotes peace of mind and inner calm. I am grateful for trails like this and the time to enjoy them with loved ones.
The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles. ― Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl
